Finding Out
Tom and I spent a week and a half in Ireland & London over my school’s Spring Break. We had always said we wanted to do one last big trip to Europe before having kids, since we knew it would be awhile until we could travel like that again. Good thing we did! We were fortunate enough to get pregnant within our first month of trying.
I took a pregnancy test while in London and experienced a rush of emotions immediately. I was surprised/excited/nervous/shocked. I was also a little upset that I couldn’t tell Tom with any of the creative ways I had found on Pinterest, since we were in London and he was watching TV in our hotel room! So for those of you wondering, no–there was no cutesy way of telling my husband, unless you define romantic by screaming from the bathroom and then rushing out and jumping on the bed with the positive test in hand.
It was fun to share our little secret between just the two of us, even though I wanted to immediately tell my family. We had one more day in London before heading home, and we actually made our first baby purchase while at the Tottenham Spurs soccer game. Since I don’t want to find out the sex of the baby, we had to get something gender neutral.
Upon returning home, I made my first doctor’s appointment. I was 4 weeks along at my first appointment where they took a blood test to check my hCG hormone levels. They asked me to come back again at 6 weeks to make sure my hCG levels were increasing appropriately and therefore confirming the pregnancy! At my 6 week appointment, they told me the exciting news that our first ultrasound would be at the 8 week appointment!
Baby Walsh still looks like a little blob!
